Spokane Police arrest three felons, seize guns and drugs

Spokane Police arrested three felons and seized guns and drugs from a nuisance home in East Central Spokane Wednesday.

After receiving a tip and later confirming that Derick Arias, a multiple time convicted felon with a violent history, was hiding out on the 2100 block of E. 5th Ave., SWAT and K9 members helped take him into custody. He was wanted on a felony warrant for escape, following an original charge of attempted first degree robbery.

Before arresting Arias, police also arrested Karen Orona, the renter of the property, on two counts of possession of a controlled substance. Arias’ sister, Nicole Arias, was arrested for outstanding felony and misdemeanor warrants.

A search warrant granted for the home led to the seizure of methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and several guns, including two assault rifles, a hunting rifle, two handguns and body armor.

Because Derick Arias and Orona are convicted felons, they are not allowed to be in possession of firearms or ammunition. Therefore, they were also charged with first degree unlawful possession of firearms.
