Spokane man starts morning running errands, comes home a millionaire

SPOKANE, Wash. — What started as a regular day of errands, quickly turned into a life-changing morning for a Spokane man.

William McGunagle woke up Friday and went to the store with his wife. When they got home, they found out they were millionaires.

McGunagle recently entered the Publishers Clearing House sweepstakes. The Prize Patrol arrived at his house with balloons and a $1 million check in hand, but when they knocked, there was no answer.

A neighbor gave McGunagle a call and found he was at Costco. The Prize Patrol waited until he got home to tell him the big announcement and when he found out, McGunagle was a bit speechless.

“We’ve been talking about retiring for a while now. We’re 65 and uh, between this and social security, I think this will help,” he said.

McGunagle is a stroke survivor and runs a daycare with his wife, Kat. He said they plan on using some of the money to fix up their car and might even buy a new one.
