Spokane man dies from injuries sustained in assault, police say his son is responsible

SPOKANE, Wash. – A man assaulted by his son has died from his injuries, according to the Spokane Police Department.

Sergeant Terry Preuninger told 4 News Now that a 60-year-old man died after spending time in the hospital for injuries sustained during an altercation with his 27-year-old son.

According to court documents, Michael Hermann lived with his father in a home near E. Carlisle Ave and N. Hogan St.

Police were called to the home late Saturday night after receiving a call from a concerned family member. Court documents indicate Hermann called the family member saying he hit his father and had “knocked him out.”

Arriving officers found the victim lying on the living room floor. Investigating officers said the victim had obvious head trauma caused by blunt force.

Court documents show the victim’s forehead had a wound pattern that was circular and approximately the size of a bottle cap. A two-liter soda bottle was found next to him.

Officers said in their report that it was possible the victim was hit with other miscellaneous items from around the house.

Hermann was taken into custody and booked into the Spokane County Jail on a first-degree assault charge. His bond has been set at $1 million.

The victim was taken to the hospital in critical condition and later died.
