Spokane International Airport to install new overhead signs

Spokane International Airport to install new overhead signs

Spokane International Airport will be installing new overhead signs on inbound and outbound Airport Drive during the next two weeks, depending on weather conditions.

The new signs will give passengers the latest information and directions they need when they arrive to or exit the airport.

Due to the signs extending over multiple lanes of traffics, parts of Airport inbound and outbound roads will need to be temporarily closed when the signs are installed. The work will happen from 1 a.m. to 3 a.m. to minimize impact.

The airport will still be accessible during this time via detoured routes.

The project will take place in two phases. The first phase will place a sign on outbound Airport Drive on Sunday, May 13.

During this phase, outbound Airport Drive will be closed just past the Ramada at Spokane Airport Hotel. Drivers leaving the airport will be directed to turn left as if they were turning into the Ramada’s parking lot but will instead make a U-turn and head in the reverse direction towards the airport’s Parking Exit Plaza. Before arriving at the Parking Exit Plaza drivers will be directed to turn right and use a temporary road to connect with McFarland Avenue. Drivers leaving the Parking Exit Plaza will turn left onto the temporary road to connect with McFarland Avenue. After turning right onto McFarland drivers will take a right at Flint Road and then a left onto Airport Drive and exit the airport as usual.

The second phase will place two signs on inbound Airport Drive, and will take place on Tuesday, May 15, Wednesday, May 16, Thursday, May 17, and Friday, May 18.

Coming from Interstate 90, exit 277: Drivers will exit as usual onto westbound Highway 2; however, at the exit to the airport they will be directed to stay on Highway 2. If they miss the traffic control and get onto the exit ramp they will be led to Sunset Highway where they can take the on-ramp to return to westbound Highway 2. Drivers will stay on Highway 2 until they arrive at Flint Road. They will take a left onto Flint Road and reconnect with Airport Drive near the airport’s economy lot. Drivers will then turn right to access the airport terminal and parking lots.

Coming from eastbound Highway 2: Drivers will be directed to turn right onto Flint Road and reconnect with Airport Drive near the airport’s economy lot. Drivers will then turn right to access the airport terminal and parking lots. If drivers miss the Flint Road turnoff they can exit at the Airport/Sunset Highway exit. Turn right onto Airport Drive and proceed to Spotted Road. Airport Drive will be closed past this point and cars will be prompted to turn right onto Spotted Road. They will then turn left onto westbound Highway 2 and proceed to Flint Road. Drivers will take a left onto Flint Road and reconnect with Airport Drive near the airport’s economy lot. They will then turn right to access the airport terminal and parking lots.

Coming from westbound Sunset Highway: Instead of veering left at the intersection of Sunset Highway and Highway 2, drivers will be directed to the right onto westbound Highway 2. Drivers will stay on Highway 2 until they arrive at Flint Road. They will take a left onto Flint Road and reconnect with Airport Drive near the airport’s economy lot. Drivers will then turn right to access the airport terminal and parking lots.

Flint Road between Airport Drive and Highway 2: Due to supporting work for the project southbound Flint Road will be closed from 1:00am to 3:00am. Northbound Flint Road will be divided into two-way traffic during the period of work. Southbound Flint Road will be reopened to normal traffic after 3:00am.
