Police identify person of interest in series of fires set in N. Spokane

SPOKANE, Wash. — The Spokane Police Department is looking for the suspect in a series of car fires that were lit early Monday near NorthTown Mall.

Spokane Fire crews responded to the first fire started around 2:30 a.m. on East Crown Avenue and ultimately responded to six individual fires throughout the morning. Cars, homes and buildings were damaged, and all fires were extinguished before 8 a.m.

A couple of residents on East Crown Avenue and North Division Street woke up to find their cars were broken into and set on fire.

“Just a ball of flames. It was a hot fire. It was hot,” said Kody Vining, who’s truck was set on fire.

In the same neighborhood on Lidgerwood, one woman says her and her fiance’s cars were set on fire and it spread to the garage.

They say they caught the woman in the act on their surveillance camera.

“We can see someone starting at the edge of his car,” said Marissa. “So it had burned his car for about 10 minutes before it hopped over.”

Fires were also set at the Bank of America near Wellesley and Division, as well as at Body by Bijou and the U-Haul on Division near Magnesium.

Spokane Police have identified a person of interest after looking through surveillance footage. The suspect has not been identified by name, but anyone with information about her identity is asked to call Crime Check at 509-456-2233.
