Spears’ Father Retains Control Of Estate

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The father of troubled pop star Britney Spears will retain control of his daughter’s finances and estate for another five months.

That’s the ruling of a Los Angeles court commissioner, who extended James Spears’ control until July 31st.

James Spears was named co-conservator of Britney’s estate after she was hospitalized twice in January. His temporary authority to handle her affairs was to have expired March 10th.

In the year leading up to the hospitalizations, Spears had been caught on camera by paparazzi engaging in increasingly bizarre behavior.

The strange outbursts and hospitalizations contributed to the 26-year-old losing custody of her young sons. Although Spears has been allowed brief visits, ex-husband Kevin Federline continues to have full custody.
