Spokane Police say the man killed by officers Wednesday is believed to be responsible for a carjacking and shooting on Monday.

The incident happened near Crestline and Lincoln Road- a white 1994 Ford Explorer was carjacked and its owner taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds.

With that knowledge, when police spotted the stolen car at the Shadle Walmart, they called for backup. Chief Craig Meidl said the car even began to move at one point- which is when police moved in to block the car from leaving the parking lot.

When the driver of the car did not respond to police commands, two officers fired. Life-saving measures were attempted- but were unsuccessful. The man was declared dead on scene. He has not been identified yet.
