South Hill shooting suspect ordered to surrender gun, released from jail

SPOKANE, Wash. — The suspect in Friday’s South Hill shooting has been released from jail on his own recognizance.
Spokane Police Sergeant Jordan Ferguson said a judge released 39-year-old George Ellis on Tuesday afternoon on the condition he surrender his firearm.
Ellis has been in jail since he was arrested on Friday evening. He is accused of getting into a physical fight, then shooting another man at a home near 38th and Cuba.
Police said Ellis was cooperative when he was taken into custody. He faces first degree assault and domestic violence charges.
The wounded man was taken to the hospital that night and was listed in critical condition.
