Snow, freezing rain cause treacherous morning commute
Monday’s morning commute was slick due to snowfall that turned into freezing rain.
The National Weather Service expected 1 to 3 inches to accumulate in the Spokane-area.
Around 8 a.m. Monday, the snow turned into freezing rain, causing multiple collisions. Highway 195 and Interstate 90 between Spokane Valley and Post Falls were particularly slick. Idaho State Police had to divert traffic from eastbound I-90 to the Spokane Street exit, due to a slide-off.
Forecasters say the outlook for Eastern Washington this week is for cold, dry weather to continue with areas of fog. By the end of the week the high pressure system and temperature inversion could cause air stagnation.
