SNAP receives $15,000 to support Ride to Care program
SPOKANE, Wash. — SNAP has received $15,000 through Providence Health Care Community benefit program in March to support the expansion of transportation services for people who are referred to the Spokane Ride to Care program.
The program serves disadvantaged persons who call 911 because they need access to healthcare and have no other resources to get to the emergency room Urgent Care clinic. If the Spokane or Spokane Valley Fire Department paramedics are able to determine the person’s health needs could be addressed at an Urgent Care clinic instead of having to transport by ambulance to the emergency room, then the person is offered an alternative which includes a ride using Medstar transportation services.
“Transportation-related needs continue to create barriers for our low-income neighbors in Spokane,” said SNAP CEO Julie Honekamp. “This funding from Providence will help SNAP move strategically and innovatively in the transportation arena to provide needed transportation options to improve access to care and reduce the financial burden to both our clients and our community.”
