Smoke detectors helps family flee burning Spokane Valley home

Authorities are investigating the cause of a fire that destroyed a Spokane Valley home early Wednesday morning.

The fire was first reported at 6:09 a.m., with a 911 caller telling dispatchers they could see flames coming from the back of the residence located at 4111 S. Conifer Court. Moments later, the caller reported seeing the residents coming out of the home.

Heavy smoke and fire billowed from the home and more units were dispatched to the scene to help contain the blaze. By the time it was over, 26 firefighters from Spokane Valley and Fire District 8 responded to the scene.

The fire got into both the attic and basement, forcing crews to attack the fire from the exterior. Within 33 minutes crews were able to extinguish the fire.

The house suffered fire, smoke and water damage throughout and is a complete loss.

The residents said they were alerted to the fire from their smoke alarms and everyone was able to evacuate without injury.
