Silver Mountain closed Friday due to high winds

KELLOGG, Idaho — Silver Mountain will be closed Friday due to high winds in the area.

The resort initially closed its gondola due to wind, but decided to fully close the mountain. The announcement was made in a Facebook post.

Silver Mountain ski area is CLOSED today due to unusually high winds. Sorry for the inconvenience this causes.

A high wind watch is in effect for areas across the Inland Northwest on Friday. The National Weather Service in Spokane predicted wind gusts around 20-35 mph.

Weather Forecaster Mark Peterson said there is more potential for wind through Saturday, both in the mountains and the lower elevations. Some areas could see up to 60 mph winds on Saturday, would could bring down trees, cause power outages and create a potential for diffcult travel conditions.
