Shock DB Gilliam Wins Rookie Of The Year
SPOKANE — In the first of what should be many awards for the Shock, defensive back Sergio Gilliam was named AF2 Rookie of the Year.
Gilliam set an AF2 record for interceptions this season in helping the Shock to a 15-1 regular season record. Gilliam picked off 16 passes this year to set the new mark. He said he thought he might win the honor, but it was still nice win it.
“I was hoping it was coming after getting all them picks,” Gilliam said. “If you can get that many picks and not get rookie of the year, you’re not too sure what’s going on, but, you know, it’s a great honor to get it. You know, I’m proud to get it.”
Gilliam and the rest of the Shock will host Amarillo Saturday at 7:00 p.m. in the national conference title game. The winner moves on to next weeks Arena Cup.
