Senior Sets High Goals
SPOKANE — Alexa Morales is one of five seniors on the Central Valley High School softball team, and she has played a key role for the Bears both on and off the field.
Alexa is proud of what she has accomplished on the field and she is always setting higher goals.
“Ever since I can remember I wanted to be on varsity my freshman year, so my freshman year that was my goal to be a starting varsity player. As years go on, make it to regionals, and last year, our goal was to make it to state and we did that,” Alexa said.
She plays shortstop on her team and she shows her leadership, and has gained the respect of her coaches and teammates, through her play.
“She has started for me all four years,” said Bear’s softball coach Jeff Van Horne. “She has been a team captain three out of those four years and she usually, year in and year out, leads our team in every category, and is also a returning All-G.S.L. player, and has a chance this year to again being 1st Team All-G.S.L., and in fact, has received a scholarship to Portland state.”
Getting a scholarship was just another one of the many things Alexa had set out to accomplish.
Her 3.7 grade point average helped her get the scholarship, but it is not easy playing softball all year, and finding time to dominate in the classroom.
“It teaches you a lot of responsibility, and how to manage time, but ever since I was little, my parents were always on me about grades and stuff so it’s kinda become second nature to me and I’m really thankful for that ‘cus I’m prepared for next year,” Alexa said.
Coach Van Horne says the Bears will miss Alexa when she’s gone and she is one of the best players in school history.
