Security Council Gives Green Light For France To Help Chad Repel Rebel Attack

UNITED NATIONS (AP) — The U.N. Security Council is condemning the rebel attack in Chad and has given France and other countries a green light to help the government repel rebel forces.

The council approved the statement after Chad’s ambassador sent a letter to the council appealing for help.

The Security Council statement “calls upon member states to provide support” in response to the government’s request.

Thousands have been fleeing Chad’s capital since the rebels arrived on the city’s outskirts Friday. There’s been renewed fighting Monday and casualties are believed to be high.
