Seahawks Pull Away To Beat Redskins 35-14; Off To Green Bay Next Saturday

SEATTLE (AP) — The Seattle Seahawks rallied with three touchdowns, two on interception returns, in the fourth quarter to defeat the Washington Redskins 35-14 in an NFC wild-card game at Qwest Field.

Matt Hasselbeck hit D.J. Hackett with a 20-yard scoring pass for one score. Marcus Trufant and Jordan Babineaux picked off Todd Collins’ first interceptions in a decade, returning them for touchdowns to make the final 21-point margin a bit deceiving. The Redskins led 14-13 early in the fourth quarter.

Hasselbeck finished 20-32 for 229 yards, one touchdown and one interception. The interception by LaRon Landry, who took over at free safety after Redskin Sean Taylor’s death, set up another TD that gave Washington a 14-13 lead with 12:38 to play.

But two Washington special teams gaffes revived the Seahawks. Shaun Suisham was wide left on a field goal from 30 yards after Seattle returner Nate Burleson misjudged a kickoff that was recovered by the Redskins. Then a 33-yard punt by Derrick Frost gave Seattle good field position to set up the go-ahead touchdown.

Seattle will travel to Green Bay next Saturday in what could be called the Mike Holmgren Bowl. The current Seahawks coach formerly coached the Packers, leading them to one Super Bowl win.
