Seahawks lose to Saints, move to 2-3 on the year

NEW ORLEANS — The Seattle Seahawks are now 2-3 after losing to the New Orleans Saints on Sunday.

The Hawks continued their road trip and were coming off a 48-45 win over the Detroit Lions. The team got off to a good start, as star receiver DK Metcalf caught a 50-yard touchdown pass from Geno Smith to give the Hawks a 7-3 lead. Jason Myers would hit a 56-yard field goal later in the quarter to give the Hawks a seven-point lead.

With Saints quarterback Jameis Winston out, they would rely on Andy Dalton and Taysom Hill for offensive production. Hill would do exactly that, scoring two rushing touchdowns in the redzone to give the Saints a 17-10 lead in the second quarter.

Toward the end of the half, Myers would hit another field goal, and with time ticking, Smith would make a big throw down the field to Tyler Lockett, giving the Hawks a 19-17 lead heading into the half.

The Saints, however, responded big in the third quarter, adding another 14 points via touchdown passes from Dalton and Hill. Up 31-19, Lockett would score another touchdown, but the failed two-point conversion attempt would make it a 31-25 game.

But in the fourth quarter, running back Kenneth Walker would break out for a long run and give the Seahawks the lead with a 69-yard touchdown.

The Seahawks one-point lead would be short-lived, as Hill would break out another run and score his third rushing touchdown of the game, making it a 39-32 game in favor of the Saints, which was how the game ended.

Smith ended the game with 268 passing yards, three touchdowns and zero interceptions. Smith and the Hawks will look to regroup next week as they are set to host the Arizona Cardinals.

“We didn’t convert,” Smith said after the game. “That’s really the difference. We didn’t convert. I’ve got to watch the film and see exactly where the issues were, but mainly, we just didn’t convert.”
