LOS ANGELES — We had a bit of a reunion Sunday afternoon, as the Seattle Seahawks traveled down to Los Angeles and faced off against former Seattle all-pro linebacker Bobby Wagner and the Los Angeles Rams.

And while the Rams won’t be anywhere near the playoff hunt this year, for the Seahawks, this was an opportunity to stay with the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC West race.

Halfway through the first quarter, Seattle is on their first offensive possession, and Geno Smith sat in the pocket and hit a wide-open Tyler Lockett downfield for the touchdown. This is Lockett’s fifth-straight game with a touchdown.

In the second quarter, the Rams retook the lead. But the Seahawks were threatening in the red zone. Smith with plenty of time found an open Noah Fant in the corner of the end zone. For a moment, it was looking like it could be one of those big offensive days.

The defense was also doing their part this afternoon, though. On the ensuing rams drive, John Wolford is going to let a pass hang a little too long, and the rookie Tariq Woolen is there for the interception, his sixth of the year, making a case for the Defensive Rookie of the Year award.

Seattle has an opportunity to add to the lead, but on third down, the former Hawk Wagner comes in strong for his second sack of the day, and the Hawks would have to punt it away.

We move to the fourth quarter. Still a one-possession game, the Rams had the ball and were knocking on the door, as Cam Akers runs right through it for the score to give the rams the lead with under three minutes to play.

Smith and company need an answer, and they get that answer with under a minute to play. Smith rolls out and hit DK Metcalf for the touchdown, and Seattle retakes the lead as they hang on for the win and snap a two-game losing streak.

The Hawks will host the Carolina Panthers next Sunday. Kickoff is at 1:25 p.m.
