SCSO offers free boating safety course in time for outdoor season

MEDICAL LAKE, Wash. — It’s time to get outside and enjoy the great outdoors again! However, if you are planning on enjoying the region’s bodies of water in a boat, you may need to brush up on your boating safety.
Every Washington resident born after Dec 31, 1954 is required to have completed the Washington Boaters Safety Course to operate any boat with a 15+ horsepower motor, or any personal watercraft.
The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office is bringing this class to the Medical Lake High School auditorium just in time for the boating season.
No registration is required. All that they ask is for you to bring a pen or pencil with you!
The class will be held on April 17 and 18 from 6 – 9 p.m. You must attend both of the days to pass.
Although the class is free, you will need to send $10 to Washington State Parks after completing the class in order to receive your certification card.
For more information on the class, call Deputy Pendell at (509) 385-6429.
