Authorities are searching for a person of interest in a 1990s homicide after human remains were uncovered in the yard of a Bothell home.

Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Shari Ireton says detectives responded last week to the home and recovered the skeletal remains.

Investigators believe the remains are that of Michael Powell of Mill Creek who hasn’t been in contact with family since the early 1990s when he was in his 30s.

Detectives are looking for 43-year-old Richard ‘Rick’ Nelson, who was last known to live in Bonney Lake, in connection with the case.

Nelson is 5 foot 9 inches tall and weighs 185 pounds with brown eyes and blond hair or shaved head.

Anyone with information about Nelson’s whereabouts is asked call the Sheriff’s Office Anonymous Tipline at 425-388-3845.
