Rain, snow and strong winds overnight – Matt
What we’re tracking
The powerful storm that’s brought lots of rain to the Inland Northwest will push strong wind gusts into our region overnight. A High Wind Warning is in effect for the base of the Blue Mountains and the Palouse. Wind gusts here could reach 60 mph, leading to damage and power outages. A Wind Advisory is in effect across most of Eastern Washington and around Coeur d’Alene for wind gusts in the 40 and 50 mph ranges.
Snow levels will drop tonight, impacting parts of the Silver Valley and nearby passes. Heavy mountain snow of 6-12 inches will impact I-90 from Haugan, MT to Wallace, ID with severe driving conditions thanks to snow combined with strong winds.
Plan your Wednesday
Keep the rain gear handy for the morning drive. The worst of the wind will be gone Wednesday morning and snow levels will have reached valley floors. It will be a rain/snow mix early Wednesday in the metro with little to no accumulations. Temperatures will stay above freezing with a high around 37.
Spokane and Coeur d’Alene forecast
Temperatures will dip below freezing Wednesday night and stay there for most of Thursday. Light snow is possible on Thursday and Friday, though there could be a rain/snow mix by Friday afternoon. The weather calms down a bit this weekend as we get ready to ring in 2023. Snow chances are likely to return again by the middle of next week.
