Providence Holy Family Hospital holds sixth grade STEM day

SPOKANE, Wash. — Fifty-five Lidgerwood Elementary school students were treated to a hands-on STEM day at Providence Holy Family Hospital on Thursday.

Students went through eight stations over the course of around three hours learning from doctors and medical professionals.

Students were able to try their hand at CPR, practice intubation on medical dummies, and even practice performing endoscopic surgery.

“Its remarkable how bright these kids are,” said Inland Imaging ultrasound manager John Crowley.

Other stations included examining blood and bacteria under a microscope, going over x-rays with technicians, and doing an ultrasound on a living human being.

“I asked one of the students what did you think, and he said best field trip ever,” said Lidgerwood Principal Steve Barnes, “I think that says it all right there.”

This is the second year of the program and Barnes hopes to bring his sixth graders back next year.
