President Bush Ending His Africa Trip In Liberia
MONROVIA, Liberia (AP)– President Bush will be back at the White House Thursday night after a six-day trip to Africa.
The president and Mrs. Bush are ending their trip with a visit to Liberia, the fifth nation on their itinerary.
Liberia’s brutal civil war ended in 2003 but it is still struggling to get back on its feet.
The west African nation has a long history with the U.S. It was founded by freed American slaves. Its U.S.-educated leader, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf is Africa’s first elected woman president.
Wednesday in Ghana, the president sought to reassure Africans about America’s intent toward the continent. He denied the U.S. has military designs on or wants to use Africa as a proxy battleground with China.
