Post Falls couple gives back to veterans with new food truck

If you’ve made your way into Post Falls in the last few months, you’ve probably noticed a big green army truck parked on Spokane Street and you may be wondering just how it got there. And it turns out, the truck’s owners are asking themselves that same question.

“No one would’ve guessed that this is what I’d be doing. I never would’ve guessed that this is what I’d be doing, even a month before we decided to do it,” said Trace Miller.

This time last year, if you told Miller and his girlfriend Jammie Jannisse they’d be running their own food truck in Idaho, they probably would’ve called you crazy. But now that they’re here, they can’t imagine being anywhere else.

Miller and Jannisse first met in Hawaii, where he was serving with the Army Reserves and she was finishing school at the University of Hawaii. Today, they’re 3,000 miles away in Post Falls, where Miller’s parents live, at their own restaurant on wheels that pays homage to Miller’s time in the military and Jannisse’s passion for cooking.

“She’s always been the cook,” Miller told KXLY. “She created the entire menu and everything.”

“We honestly just made what we would make at home and it seems like people love it,” Jannisse added.

They serve every burger and every fry with a purpose, as they put part of their profits towards veteran suicide prevention programs, a cause that’s close to their hearts.

“Whenever you’re getting blessed from your community, make sure to remember where it came from and give back,” Miller said.

They say they know without their community’s support, they wouldn’t be able to live their dream out everyday.

“I mean we didn’t do this, we didn’t start a food truck to get rich,” Jannisse said. “We really just want to be able to give back as much as we can and help those who have helped us.”

The Food Bunker is open Tuesday-Saturday at 702 North Spokane Street in Post Falls from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., though Miller and Jannisse say those hours could change when they open a new bar and restaurant called The Bunker Bar next door in March.
