Post Falls Boy Scout sells $15K worth of popcorn, uses portion of money to help local nursing home
COEUR d’ALENE, Idaho — While most 12-year-old boys are busy hanging out with their friends in their free time, one Post Falls boy spent his free time raising thousands of dollars for his boy scout troop. He then used some of that money to help local seniors.
“Hi, my name is Logan Fisher, I’m with Troop 8202 and trying to raise money so I can go to the National Scout Jamboree in West Virginia and summer camp in New Mexico. Can I get your support to help me?” Logan Fisher recited his pitch to 4 News Now, ending it with a smile.
For nine hours every Saturday last October, Logan Fisher stood at Lowe’s in Coeur d’Alene saying those words to the people he met.
Clearly, it worked. He sold $15,000 worth of popcorn.
Logan seems to be pretty confident in his abilities of selling popcorn.
“I’ve done it multiple times, so I knew what I was doing,” he admitted.
He had a handful of patches to show off how much he’s done in his few years in the boy scouts. To add to that list, he’s the number one popcorn seller for the Inland Northwest Council of Boy Scouts of America.
About $1,200 of that went to a local nursing home – The Coeur d’Alene Health of Cascadia. They help seniors with dementia and those who don’t have a place to go. Before Christmas, the nursing home had lost some Christmas decorations.
“We work in a nursing home. We don’t have a lot of money to throw on things like that. It was really nice to have that above and beyond thing, especially during that time of year,” said Eric Miller, the CEO of Coeur d’Alene Health of Cascadia.
So, why the nursing home and not another organization?
“Because they’re older people who are empty nesters. Figured they needed it more than other people do,” Logan said.
Other portions of the money will help Logan get to a national boy scouts conference in West Virgina next year, to do what he loves – camping.
Logan’s mom said he’s been the top seller for the last two years, and you can bet he’ll be back at the Lowe’s in Coeur d’Alene come this fall.
