Post Falls neighbors hear loud boom, no explosions in nearby area
POST FALLS, ID. — If you live in Post Falls, you probably heard a loud boom-like sound in the area.
Multiple viewers reached out to 4 News Now letting us know that there was a loud boom in the area at around 7:15 p.m.
According to Northern Lakes Fire District PIO Chris Larson, he says there were rumors going around that there were fires or explosions at the BNSF Rail Yard or at a mill.
Larson says those rumors are false. He said the photos and videos of a glow in the sky are from lights at the Rathdrum Power Plant. They say the lights have been there for over 20 years and have produced false alarms in the past.
Larson adds that crews did not respond to any fires or explosions from the following areas:
- Southern border of Prairie Avenue
- Western border of Hauser to the northern border of Spirit Lake
- Athol to the eastern border of the backside of Hayden Lake
The cause of the loud boom is unknown at this point in time.
This is a developing story.
