Portland Winterhawks upend Spokane Chiefs, 8-3

The Portland Winterhawks used a three-goal second period and a four-goal third to take a 8-3 win over the Spokane Chiefs Friday night in Portland, OR. With the win, the Winterhawks won the season series 6-2.

Portland led 1-0 after one on Ty Rattie’s power play goal at 3:38 of the first period. Spokane’s Mitch Holmberg would tie the game with his 23rd goal of the year from Dominick Uher at 2:17 of the second period. Portland would score 3 unanswered goals to take a 4-1 lead late in the second. Uher would score his team leading 26th goal of the year from Todd Fiddler at 19:51 to cut the Portland lead to 4-2 after two periods.

The Winterhawks would extend the lead to 5-2 at 3:06 of the third, but Spokane’s Liam Stewart would score his 11th goal of the year from Collin Valcourt at 4:10 to bring the Chiefs within 5-3. It was Stewart’s 5th goal in his last 6 games. Portland would then get 2 goals just 38 seconds apart midway through the period to make it 7-3. The Winterhawks 2nd power play goal in 3 attempts late in the game capped the scoring.

Spokane will return home to face the Tri City Americans Saturday night at 7:05pm
