Pop-up bike lanes coming to University District as part of ‘Spokane in Motion’ project — The streets of downtown Spokane are becoming more biker friendly as traffic lanes just for cyclists are being created on several downtown streets.

SPOKANE, Wash. — ‘Spokane in Motion’ is hosting two upcoming events to educate people on bicycle awareness.

From September 28 through October 5 the City Council will install temporary bicycle infrastructure in the University District, along Spokane Falls Boulevard. This includes a two-way cycle track and a protected bike lane, which will up for public comment.

People can provide feedback through an online survey.

The other event is a screening of ‘Motherload,’ a crowd-funded documentary about cargo bikes and how they will ‘save the world.’ The showing will be at Eastern Washington University’s Spokane campus at 668 N. Riverpoint on Friday, October 4, starting at 5:30 p.m.

Before the movie screening, there will be a cargo bike demo for people to take test rides. Free tickets for ‘Motherload’ are available online.

Council Member Breean Beggs is sponsoring the Spokane in Motion project. “Bicycling is a healthy way to get to work and complete other daily tasks,” said Beggs. “Our outreach and education efforts are designed to educate people about bicycling infrastructure and encourage more people to make this choice.”
