Police detonate IED near Moses Lake Municipal Airport

An improvised explosive device was detonated in a controlled charge Monday night near the Moses Lake Municipal Airport.

Officers from the Moses Lake Police Department found the IED while serving a drug search warrant on an impounded vehicle. The IED appeared to be similar to a pipe bomb, wrapped in a duct tape with a fuse. There was also evidence the device contained powder from fireworks.

The Richland Police Department’s Bomb Squad was called in and determined the safest course of action was to detonate it in a safe place.

The blast was reportedly heard by many people in the surrounding area.

Police have identified a suspect, but he is not in custody. They also found drug paraphernalia and items stolen from previous vehicle prowls in the impounded vehicle.
