Police: Dentist with .418 blood-alcohol level tried working on patients

A Pennsylvania dentist is charged with public drunkenness and reckless endangerment after police said he tried to work on patients while drunk, the York Dispatch reported.

According to WPXI TV, police were called to Refresh Dental Management in Mars by concerned staff members on March 23. Officers said they found Dr. Gregory Bellotti smelling of alcoholic beverages and intoxicated.

The criminal complaint said Bellotti admitted to police officers that he drank a bottle of vodka before they arrived.

Police said he worked on seven patients before the office staff noticed his inebriation and stepped in, according to the York Dispatch report.

WPXI reports that documents state Bellotti was the only dentist working that day and was found sleeping in a dental chair around 2:30 p.m.

Bellotti was taken to a hospital, and medical records show he was found to have a blood-alcohol level of .418 percent.

The York Dispatch reports the state dentistry board has suspended his license.

Bellotti has an arraignment scheduled for Sept. 5.
