Police: Cataldo Man Beat Woman For 14 Hours
COEUR D’ALENE — For 14 hours this weekend a woman endured beatings, rape and strangulation at the hands of North Idaho, escaping only after her attacker fell asleep.
Thirty-year-old Zachery Little has been arrested and is now being held in the Kootenai County Jail on charges of attempted kidnapping, attempted strangulation, crimes against nature and rape for the attack.
Down Watson Road in a mobile home surrounded by trees near Rose Lake, Zachery Little allegedly tortured a woman for 14 hours over the weekend. According to a police report Little became angry because he thought the victim was seeing somebody else.
The report says that when Little tried to make the woman confess to cheating on him he turned increasingly violent.
The abuse outlined in the report alleges he slapped her head, hit her shins with a stick, forced the victim to watch pornography, raped her, smashed her hand with a pair of pliers, whipped her with a leather belt and then attempted to strangle her with it.
Philip Griner is a friend of both Little’s and the victim, and is in shock over what’s being reported.
“I’m sick, if even a third of its true, what I read in the paper. I never want to see him again,” Griner said.
At one point Little told her “You are my prisoner” and the victim later told police she thought she was going to die. But Little fell asleep and the victim seized the opportunity to flee the mobile home Sunday morning and drove to a friend’s home in Coeur d’Alene for help.
That friend then drove her to Kootenai Medical Center for treatment of her injuries and Little was later arrested and taken into custody.
“Shock … I mean you read about this kind of stuff but I mean … I can’t believe he would do something like this so close to family, mine, his and hers,” Philip Griner said.
Little has a lengthy criminal history in Kootenai County mostly for driving infractions. He was arrested once on a battery charge in 2004 but that charge was later dropped.
