Police capture Kennewick murder suspect in Spokane home
Police have taken into custody a man suspected in a fatal shooting in Kennewick Friday morning.
Grant Scantling, 41, was taken into custody at 5:30 p.m. Friday in a home in the 2200 block of North Denver. Scantling was inside the home at the time he was taken into custody.
Scantling is suspected to have been involved in a shooting at a Kennewick duplex around 7:30 a.m.
The victim, a 21-year-old man, and Scantling lived together in the duplex but were not related, Kennewick Police Sergeant Ken Lattin told the Tri-City Herald earlier in the day.
Police spotted Scantling’s car parked in front of a North Spokane home and began searching for him early Friday afternoon.
They were supported from the air by the Spokane County Sheriff’s helicopter Air 1.
“We have to prepare for the worst and hope for the best and so that’s why you see a lot of equipment out here,” Lt. Keith Cummings with the Spokane Police Department said.
It’s not known yet what connection Scantling has to the Spokane area, but police said the home he was arrested at was that of a childhood friends.
Kennewick police were expected to be in Spokane Friday night to execute search warrants at two homes to search for evidence possibly linked to the murder.
“This is a homicide investigation, it doesn’t get more serious than that. We are going to do what we can to help other agencies complete their investigation just as we would expect them to help us,” Lt. Cummings added.
