Police ‘bean bag’ knife wielding man downtown

Quite the scene in downtown Spokane Friday evening as police took down a knife wielding man.

Around 7:00 p.m. police were called out to the STA Bus Plaza. They were concerned the man might have a gun under his jacket instead of a knife.
They ended up shooting him with non-lethal bean bag rounds.

“He’s going to be taken to the hospital. Obviously, looked at, he’s got some bruising from the impact weapons that were used to take him into custody, as well as get him the mental health that he needs,” said Spokane Police Lieutenant Tom Hendren.

Riverside Ave. was closed for a short time while police got the situation under control.
