Pentagon Says China Poses Risk
WASHINGTON (AP) — In a new assessment of China’s military power released Monday, the Pentagon says Beijing’s reluctance to explain the extent and purpose of its military buildup poses a risk to stability in Asia.
The report says the international community has limited knowledge of the motivations, decision-making, and capabilities supporting China’s military modernization. This includes a lack of clarity about China’s defense spending.
It also says this ambiguousness could lead to misunderstandings and miscalculations as other countries hedge against an uncertain future direction in Beijing.
