Patty Murray presses for federal ferry support
SEATTLE — Senator Patty Murray invited U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx on a trip across Puget Sound to emphasize the importance of ferries and hopefully to help secure future funding.
During the ride on the Wenatchee to Bainbridge Island on Monday, Murray said the Washington ferry system was an important part the of transportation network.
Foxx was impressed, saying that seeing it in person “left an indelible impression” on him. What Foxx did not see was an example of the many problems that plagued the nation’s largest ferry system this summer, including a July ferry breakdown with 400 people onboard.
Earlier in the day Foxx announced a $20 million grant for the Port of Seattle.
