Paradise Anything But Because Of Fire

BIG SUR, Calif. — Time to leave Paradise.

Thousands of people in the California town north of Sacramento have been ordered to leave their homes after a wildfire destroyed dozens of houses in the neighboring community of Concow.

Among those evacuated — 95 children at a camp for kids with cancer.

More triple-digit heat is expected across Northern California Wednesday, where fires touched off by lightning storms have been blazing for weeks.

Officials are concerned firefighters are in as much danger from heat stroke as they are from the fires themselves. Weary crews are getting rest breaks on bunk beds in refrigerated trailers.

A fire threatening the small coastal community of Big Sur let up just enough Tuesday to allow hundreds of people to check on their homes. More people will be allowed back home late Wednesday.
