Over 25 arrested for in multi-agency drug trafficking emphasis patrol, ISP says

NEZ PERCE CO., Idaho — Idaho law enforcement recently conducted a drug trafficking emphasis patrol in Nez Perce County.

Idaho State Police (ISP) teamed up with the Nez Perce County Sheriff’s Office, Nez Perce Tribal Police, Lewiston Police Department and the FBI in a multi-agency targeting illegal narcotics trafficking in the area.

“We’re working together to keep our communities and the families that we live in them safe,” said ISP Detective Sergeant Gilbertson, “We want to do our part to keep these dangerous drugs and other criminal activities out of our towns and away from our children.”

During the patrol, law enforcement arrested or charged 21 people on drug possession, drug trafficking or other drug-related charges. They also arrested four people on outstanding warrants, and two for driving under the influence.

According to ISP, illegal narcotics is a challenge in many Idaho communities. Citing the Idaho Uniform Crime Report, ISP says that in Nez Perce County in 2018:

  • Over 600 people were charged with drug violations
  • The number of people arrested for drug violence reached over 9 percent
  • A drug violation occurred every 37.8 minutes
