Out-Of-State Fire Crews Arrive In California
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Fire crews from Nevada and Oregon have arrived to help California firefighters battle hundreds of blazes that are darkening the sky over the San Francisco Bay area and the Central Valley.
The lightning-caused fires have led public health officials to issue air-quality warnings and have caused hundreds to flee their homes.
Elsewhere in the state, residents were ordered to evacuate an area of Monterey County Wednesday because of a huge blaze. That fire started before the weekend lightning storm that unleashed nearly 8,000 lightning strikes, triggering more than 800 wildfires.
Weather officials say the storms were of a sort that usually arrive later in the year.
