One Critically Injured In Highway 195 Collision

SPOKANE — A truck driver has suffered life-threatening injuries in the wake of a collision with a passenger car in the northbound lanes of Highway 195 near the Hatch Road intersection.

A small car was heading northbound on Highway 195 at Milepost 90 when the driver swerved to avoid hitting a deer that was crossing the highway. A semi-truck driver tried to avoid hitting the small car but ended up hitting it.

The driver of the truck was trapped in the cab of his vehicle and crews had to cut him out. The highway was closed so a MedStar helicopter could land and once the driver was extricated from the truck he was taken to the helicopter which then lifted off to take him to the hospital for treatment.

His condition is not known at this time.

The driver of the small car is unhurt, while the deer that the driver swerved to avoid hitting was struck in the southbound lanes of Highway 195.

One lane of northbound Highway 195 was reopened just before 6:30 p.m. after the MedStar helicopter lifted off from the scene.  The second lane was not scheduled to reopen until after 10 p.m.
