Officer John Scott fired from Spokane Police Department
SPOKANE, Wash. — Officer John Scott’s employment with the Spokane Police Department was terminated Tuesday, following an internal affairs investigation of domestic violence charges made against him last year.
Those charges were dropped, but the internal investigation determined that Scott violated several department policies.
Scott was originally placed on administrative leave after being arrested on July 10, 2017, for one count of assault fourth degree domestic violence. That charge was dismissed due to lack of information to prove beyond reasonable doubt that Scott committed a crime.
Once the criminal investigation by the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office was completed, Spokane Police conducting their own internal investigation to make sure that department policies and procedures weren’t violated.
Scott was placed on administrative leave during the investigation. SPD determined that Scott had violated their policy and his employment was terminated Tuesday.
“We take all allegations of domestic violence and police misconduct involving our officers seriously,” says Chief Craig Meidl. “This type of behavior does not represent the vast number of honorable men and women who work for SPD and serve our community each and every day.”
