New standard may affect 19,000 vessel owners in Washington
SPOKANE, Wash. — The United States Coast Guard is beginning to enforce a new Federal Standard regarding Hull Identification Numbers for vessels.
This new standard may require 19,000 Washington vessel owners to change their Hull Identification Number on their vessels.
The HIN number is a unique identifier for each vessel.
The changes are in place to improve boating safety and enhance law enforcement capabilities.
