COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho — If starting a new hobby is on your list of New Year’s resolutions, then you might want to consider rock climbing.

Just ask Daniel Shaw, who’s been climbing for 14 years and who, now, is about to open Coeur d’Alene’s first stand-alone climbing gym.

Coeur Climbing is slated to open this fall. Once that happens, you’ll find the 13,900 square-foot gym on Schreiber Way, near Fred Meyer.

The gym will offer top-rope and lead climbing up to 50 feet high, and bouldering up to 15 feet high, Shaw says.

It will also offer a kid’s climbing area, as well as a training area and lessons for beginners.

In addition to climbing, customers will have the option to practice yoga in a separate studio. Shaw says there will also be a room for cardio and weights.

And, for those of you needing a caffeine boost to get through that workout, you’ll be happy to hear the gym will have a cafe on-site.
