National Forest officials planning to burn nearly 250 acres of debris near Tonasket
OKANOGAN CO., Wash. — Officials with the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest are preparing to burn nearly 250 acres of hand piles on Tuesday.

Hand piles are organized piles of organic waste, such as wood and debris from logging operations.
The National Forest is going to burn 241 acres’ worth of these piles, using coordinated, systematic burning procedures. They will carry out the operation in the Tonasket Ranger District, about 14 miles southeast of Tonasket.
They anticipate the smoke to disperse to the north and west.
