A local elementary school student helped raise money to wipe out school lunch debt.

A Spokane elementary school student is being praised for her work helping her classmates.

Lilly Cowart is a student at Mullan Road Elementary. When she heard that some of her classmates could not afford to pay for their school lunches, she asked her dad if they could find a way to help.

Cowart’s dad is the general manager of Larry H. Miller and thought a special promotion could help. Throughout the course of the summer, the dealership raised funds that would go directly toward the Spokane Public Schools’ Benevolence Fund.

On Monday, Cowart and the dealership presented SPS with a check for $10,000.
