Motorcyclist falls while trying to stand on his bike, later dies from injuries

A motorcyclist died from his injuries following a violent crash in the 6900 block of North Wall Street on Sunday evening.

According to the Spokane County Medical Examiner, the man was identified as 49-year-old Garth Mortimer. The cause of death was ruled as head trauma including skull fracture.

Witness accounts allege that Mortimer was attempting to stand on the seat of his motorcycle, when he slipped and fell off the bike. He was wearing a helmet, but it was not fastened tightly.

The motorcycle continued, crashing into a parked pickup truck.

Mortimer was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, but succumbed to his injuries a short time later.
