Mother accused of child abuse accidentally released from jail

Leslie Baker, the woman accused of abusing her 8-year-old son, was accidentally released from the Spokane County Jail Tuesday, according to Spokane Police.

kxly4 received a news tip Wednesday night that Spokane Police officers were at the Copper Hill apartments on E. 44th Avenue where Baker lives. A neighbor says officers told her they were looking for Baker, who was released from jail on accident.

kxly4 reached out to SPD Cpl. Ron Van Tassel who confirmed Baker had been released. Van Tassel says she’s wanted by police, but did not have any other information surrounding the circumstances of her release.

Baker was arrested Sunday, July 29, and posted a $50,000 bond. She didn’t show up for her court appearance on Monday, however, and was re-arrested at her apartment later that day. She made her first court appearance Tuesday where a judge raised her bond to $100,000.
