Moscow PD believes white vehicle they’re looking for was in the area during murders

MOSCOW, ID. — The Moscow Police Department believes the white car they are looking for has key information regarding the murders of four University of Idaho students just over a month ago.

In a Youtube video posted on the Moscow Police Youtube page, Moscow Police Captain Roger Lanier said he believes through their investigation, a white Hyundai Elantra was in the area during the time of the murders. They also believe the people inside the car at the time may have seen something, even if they didn’t know it at the time.

“We specifically want to talk to them and want to know who they are, what they might know or might be able to contribute to the investigation,” Lanier said.

Over the weekend, investigators spent hours searching through tips over the weekend, prioritizing tips about the white Hyundai Elantra. They say analysts have interviewed people to clarify information. They say those people they previously interviewed might have new insight as new information comes in.

Police say numerous analysts have been sifting through hours of video to try and find any new information.

Lanier says everyone should be vigilant when walking around in the area to stay safe.

“We should always be vigilant,” Lanier said. “Certainly, we should be vigilant now, but we should make that a way of life for us. We should always be walking with our head up, sticking to lighted paths and walking in groups if we can, and in addition, letting people know when you’ve arrived home if you have not made prior arrangements.”

Lanier says to stick to official news releases for information on the investigation. He says tracking down rumors on people or events around the investigation that may or may not have happened creates a large distraction for investigators.

Investigators are still not releasing detailed information “to preserve the integrity of the investigation.” They say they are still 100 percent committed to solving this crime.
