Montana man killed in train collision identified
TROY, Mont. — Officials have identified a 66-year-old Montana man who died when his pickup got caught on the railroad tracks near Troy and was struck by a train.
The Montana Highway Patrol says Donald Hawkins of Troy was driving a Dodge pickup at about 9 p.m. Friday when he drove off the side of the road while crossing the railroad tracks. The right front tire of his pickup got stuck in the tracks.
Hawkins did not leave his vehicle as the train approached with its horn sounding. The collision caused his pickup to explode into flames and Hawkins died at the scene.
The patrol is still investigating.
