‘Monsters of Rock’ gets the green light to rock Joe Albi this summer
SPOKANE, Wash. — The vote is in! Monsters of Rock is another step closer to rocking Joe Albi Stadium this summer.
The Spokane Public School Board gave concert organizers the green light during a meeting on Wednesday, when they approved a resolution for a one-time waiver on the stadium’s ban on alcohol sales.
The original Monsters of Rock Tour took place at Joe Albi back in 1988. Sammy Hagar, the former lead singer of Van Halen, played at that show.
When Hagar heard of Joe Albi’s scheduled demolition, he decided to rally bands back to Spokane to play one last show.
Concert organizers are now working to make that show happen sometime in August.
According to a production plan, the talent lineup is still being discussed.
First, organizers are waiting to finalize the rental of Joe Albi Stadium.
As part of the rental agreement with WestCoast Entertainment, every $1 per ticket sold will go toward Spokane Public Schools.
Organizers say they expect the event to sell close to capacity, which would mean selling a total of 30,000 tickets.
