Monroe Street Bridge closed for maintenance

The Monroe Street Bridge is closed for maintenance and will reopen Saturday.

From October 10-12, the Monroe Street Bridge will be closed for paving and construction work on the south end of the structure. Previously, the project was going to take place in late September, but was pushed back due to inclement weather.

We have rescheduled the Monroe Street Bridge closure for Thursday, Oct. 10, 9 p.m. through Saturday, Oct. 12. The closure includes Monroe, Spokane Falls, northbound Wall and Howard. Hopefully Mother Nature will cooperate this time! #SpokaneStreets Detailshttps://t.co/bSwGlZz2Oq pic.twitter.com/av9HSagJfi

There are other traffic changes planned to accommodate the closure:

Spokane Falls Boulevard will be closed starting at Howard Street
Northbound Wall and Howard streets will be closed from Main to Spokane Falls Boulevard
Post Street north of Spokane Falls Boulevard will be inaccessible
Access into Peaceful Valley will be via a detour on Riverside to Clark Avenue
River Park Square parking garage will only be accessible from the entrance at Lincoln Street and Main Avenue

Contractors will work through the night on Thursday. Runners in the Spokane Marathon on Sunday will be accommodated, according to the City.

The paving work is part of a project to install a sewer overflow tank, designed to store runoff from heavy rain and rapid snow melt. This will allow to be stored until such a weather event subsides, where it will then move on to water treatment facilities, instead of directly into the Spokane River.
